Year 6 make cocktails

We all need mathematical skills in our everyday lives and it is important that the children can put the skills they learn in their maths lessons to use outside of school.  We were learning about capacity, measuring in litres and mls and solving worded problems which involve measures.  However learning these facts from a book can be a little bit dull; instead we brought the learning alive and made fruit juice cocktails, measuring precise quantities and recording them in our books.  We will be using this information next week during our lessons when we will be learning about ratio and proportion.

Of course, we could not let the cocktails go to waste, so we had great fun comparing, and drinking, the different concoctions!
