Orchestral Day in Reigate

Friday 12th June saw a group of instrumentalists from St. Matthews take part in our first Orchestral Day.  Joining in with schools from the Redhill and Reigate area, pupils from Years 4, 5 and 6 took part in string and woodwind groups, which joined together to form an orchestra of 120!  This was a tremendous opportunity for the young instrumentalists to join forces with other players and discover how an orchestra works together under the direction of a conductor and tutors to perform a piece of music.  A short concert for parents rounded the day off by playing 'Mars' from Gustav Holst's Planet Suite and Edvard Grieg's 'In the Hall of the Mountain King' as well as the two pieces for wind band and string group.  An enjoyable, yet hard working day was had by all!
