'If the world were a village' -  Year 1

Every class across our school is enjoying a special week of cross-curricular learning activities entitled "If the world were a village. " (You may be familiar with the book by David J Smith and Shelagh Armstrong.)

Maths, English, geography, science, art, Religious Education (RE), Personal Health, Social and Citizenship Education (PHSCE) have all been included in the exciting timetable of activities, using our wonderful indoor and outdoor facilities at school as well as off-site visits. We were pleased to welcome back Jo Hedges from East Surrey Water who talked to the children about water supply and demand in this country and water aid projects overseas.

Children in Year 1  have been  celebrating our similarities and differences. We have talked about what makes us unique, drawn self- portraits and used our maths skills to sort ourselves into Venn diagrams. In science we have been learning about food chains and healthy eating. We also visited Sainsbury's to buy the ingredients, sourced from around the world, needed for our 'Ready Steady Cook' challenge.
